Segerstad

Experience the unique archipelago and old village at Segerstad.
The area is part of lake Vänern's unique archipelago. The area consists of around 30 islands and is protected through it's status as a nature reserve. You wont find any settlement here, the area consists mainly of forests and beaches.
The small village of Segerstad, however, is a good example of a radby - a village in which the houses are built in a line - essentially untouched for centuries in terms of it's characteristic shape, though of course the houses have been renovated and modified.

Segerstad's old graveyard also lies within the village, with a monument showing where the medieval church stood up till 1745.

The entire Segerstad peninsula has many ancient remains. The peninsula has been cultivated for thousands of years. Here, mounds of stones can be found which are placed on ledges and ridges, and several of them are big and well-built. There are also old burial grounds in the area, that dates back to the the Iron Age.
